Homelike Pubs
Poem
I wrote this in a pub (The Thirsty Scholar) in Penryn. Enjoy.
Homelike Pubs
In a pub With exposed cottage-brick walls. Sat near a woodburner. Coat on, flopped, warmed. I looked toward the taps And soon ordered a Cornish ale. There was a smile and a thank you From the both of us. It was uncomfortable but soothing, My worn wooden bench for one— Like the clunky arrangement Of a cuddling Lovers arm. I sit and sip and read, And I listen to conversations. They did accidentally ___, The ___ was fantastic, It was ___ I didn't ___ that, We put lots in the ___, Another? The fire's even warmer now. Yeah, I'll get myself one more too.
